Dramatic Reduction in our Funding

Dear Friends

The Covid-19 Pandemic continues to affect life in Alberta; the health crisis and the resulting economic crisis have reached into every aspect of endeavour in the province. You have all observed how the crises has required huge new expenditure on the part of the Government of Alberta, in the short term, but we must presume these new expenditures will continue to have an impact indefinitely. Of course, I am sure that for all of us, our primary thoughts are for those who are suffering in any way, and their families.

The Historical Society has been contacted by Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women, Heritage Resources Management Branch with some difficult news. Through Historic Resources, the GOA is our primary funder. The Government of Alberta’s new financial commitments to meet the health crisis have had an enormous impact on our organisation directly, and negatively.

The H.S.A., along with all of the other provincial heritage organisations, are having their allocations from Historic Resources reduced drastically.

As you will immediately realise, this will have an impact on everything we do, or can do. In the short term we have streamlined our office contacts, and some of our functions, with some immediate savings. The office is open only intermittently, primarily due to the health restrictions. We are picking up messages and emails remotely, but it may take time for us to get a reply to you,

The H.S.A. Council is meeting about this new information, and, over time, you will see a leaner organisation emerging, to ensure our continued presence in Alberta’s heritage community and our continuing contribution to our province.

Please email the Society info@albertahistory.org , or telephone or email me directly at any time with your comments: 780-807-4648 (personal) danieltimothymarriott@gmail.com

Trusting that all of you remain healthy and safe,

Tim
