Provincial Archives B.3846 The Queen Alexandra History Centre in Edmonton’s Old Strathcona district has been established to provide unique ways of implementing the Alberta Social Studies curriculum, to promote historical knowledge and understanding of cultural values and to develop academic and research skills necessary in the inquiry process. What makes the History Centre unique in a field where in which Social Studies consultants abound? The Centre will focus on the content material, the historical knowledge needed to teach the newly-implemented newly implemented Alberta Education Curriculum. Workshops will teach the “what” and offer a variety of ways in which this historical knowledge may be enhanced in the teaching process. The Centre will offer resources not readily found in the ordinary classroom and will provide teachers and students with a unique embellishment to their classroom activities.The partnering agencies will contribute information, personnel and a variety of resources, which will equip the History Centre with a collection of artifacts and archival materials, both primary and secondary, computers, a classroom for project work and a stage area for dramatic re-enactments of historical events. The History Centre will offer, in both official languages, workshops designed to develop the students’ ability to develop acquire research skills, and will provide access to expertise in history, research, drama and other areas of study. A major goal of the History Centre is the cultivation of to cultivate a life-long appreciation of history and the development of to develop appropriate research skills.
