The Chinook Country Historical Society is a chapter of the Historical Society of Alberta and therefore supports the vision and mission of the provincial society, preserving the past for the future.

The Chinook Country Historical Society fulfils this function in terms of its commitment to ensure that “all people know, understand, appreciate, and enjoy Alberta’s rich and diverse historical past.” More specifically, our chapter focuses not only on the city of Calgary, but on the entire region extending from the Saskatchewan border to British Columbia and from Nanton to midway between Calgary and Red Deer.

The first Historical Society of Calgary was founded in 1923, but had vanished by 1927.

The current Chinook chapter was established in 1958 when the Historical Society of Alberta was reorganized and incorporated on May 7, 1993 as an independent society.
